Dental Anxiety

I’m Nervous About the Dentist. Like, Really Nervous. And That’s Okay.

You already know you should go to the dentist. You’ve known for a while. Maybe it’s been a year. Maybe it’s been five. Or maybe you can’t even remember the last time you went. And every time you think about making that call, your stomach tightens a little. You are not alone, and you are not broken. Dental anxiety is incredibly common. We see it every single week. And we have built our practice around making sure people like you feel safe, heard, and comfortable.

First, Let’s Name What You’re Feeling

Dental anxiety shows up differently for different people. For some, it’s the sound of the drill. For others, it’s the needle. Some people feel trapped or out of control. Others had a bad experience as a kid that stuck with them.

Whatever your reason is, it’s valid. You don’t need to justify it to us. You don’t need to apologize for it. We just need to know about it so we can help.

What We Actually Do to Help Patients With Dental Anxiety

We don’t just say “don’t worry” and then do the same thing every other dentist does. We have real tools and real strategies to make visits easier for you:

  • We go slow: No surprises. We explain everything before we do it. You’ll never have a tool in your mouth wondering what’s happening next.
  • We agree on a stop signal: You pick a hand signal, raising your hand, for example, and if you use it, we stop immediately. No questions asked. That puts you back in control.
  • We offer comfort items: Weighted blankets, pillows, headphones with music, Netflix on the ceiling TV. Whatever helps you relax.
  • We have sedation options: For patients with moderate to severe anxiety, we offer sedation dentistry. You stay awake but deeply relaxed. Many patients don’t even remember the appointment afterward. It’s a game changer for people who thought they could never sit through a filling or a crown.

What Happens When You Keep Avoiding the Dentist

We’re not saying this to scare you. We’re saying it because avoiding care usually makes the problem bigger. A small cavity that could be fixed in 20 minutes can become a root canal or an extraction. That’s more time in the chair, not less.

Coming in now, even after a long gap, is almost always easier than waiting another year. Your future self will thank you.

How to Take the First Step

You don’t have to schedule a full cleaning and exam right away. You can start smaller.

Call us and just talk. Ask questions. Tell us you’re nervous. We’ll listen. If it feels right, you can schedule a “meet and greet” where you come in, meet Dr. Tara or Dr. Keith, see the office, and leave without any treatment at all.

No pressure. No judgment. Just a conversation.

You Deserve a Healthy Smile Without Fear

You might think your anxiety is too big for us to handle. We’ve heard that before. And we’ve watched those same patients leave with a smile on their face, saying things like, “That wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought.”

We’ve been serving Nashua families for over 80 years. Three generations. And in all that time, we’ve learned that the bravest patients aren’t the ones who aren’t afraid. They’re the ones who show up anyway.

Whenever you’re ready, we’re here. Give us a call.
